-- A worker-rights group said it found labor violations at BYD's (HKG:1211, SHE:002594) new plant in Hungary, where the company plans to start mass production this quarter.
China Labor Watch said its investigation identified debt-linked recruitment, excessive working hours, and opaque employment arrangements affecting some Chinese migrant workers hired through subcontractors and intermediaries, according to a Tuesday report.
The group said the practices may breach local labor rules and align with forced labor indicators defined by the International Labour Organization.
BYD is building a major electric-vehicle manufacturing facility in Hungary as part of its expansion into Europe.
