Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google is negotiating a deal with the Department of Defense that would allow the Pentagon to use the tech giant's Gemini AI models in classified settings, The Information reported Thursday, citing two people with direct knowledge of the talks.
The report said that if the two companies reach an agreement, the move would expand Google's connection to the Pentagon as a tech contractor and would also reverse Google's past stance on working with the military.
During the talks, Google has proposed language in the contract with the department that would prevent its AI technology from being used for domestic mass surveillance or autonomous weapons without human oversight and control, the report said.
